Calvin Sun is the Managing Partner of SemFin, and a GovCon planning systems expert with over 25 years of experience implementing financial planning solutions on IBM Planning Analytics (TM1) and IBM Cognos Analytics. His command of planning and reporting requirements, paired with a working knowledge of government contractor operations and human resources, shapes the functional design of the FocusPoint Solution. Over the course of his career Calvin has delivered more than 100 implementations for government contractors, project-based businesses, and Fortune 500 companies. That combination of financial expertise and technical depth has made him a trusted resource for clients navigating complex planning environments.

Prior to co-founding SemFin, Calvin spent a decade with Deltek, Inc., rising from Principal Consultant to Senior Principal Consultant and serving as lead consultant for the Enterprise Planning group. In that role he led over 60 Enterprise Planner implementations for Deltek clients across the government contracting market.

David Liao is a Partner at SemFin and a CPA whose career bridges government contract accounting and enterprise financial planning technology. He brings more than two decades of experience helping government contractors and project-driven businesses translate complex accounting requirements into working budgeting, forecasting, and reporting systems. Prior to co-founding SemFin, David spent nearly five years at Deltek, Inc. as a Senior Enterprise Planning Consultant, where he implemented Enterprise Planning solutions for clients across the GovCon market.

At SemFin, David applies this expertise to the architecture and configuration of the FocusPoint Planning solution, working directly with clients to map their business processes into the system.

Rick Khan is a Partner at SemFin and a CPA with over 27 years of experience and more than 250 successful implementations to his credit. His command of enterprise-wide analytics and information delivery systems allows him to advise customers on sound solutions that add real value while minimizing total cost of ownership.

Prior to co-founding SemFin, Rick spent 12 years as Director of the Business Intelligence and Planning Group at Deltek, Inc., where he specialized in advising customers on best practices for implementing analytics and financial planning solutions. His work there spanned server architecture and configuration, metadata modeling, security, and proven development methods for full integration of Cognos Analytics and Planning Analytics components. He has also conducted numerous public and on-site Cognos training classes for Deltek clients.

John H. Johnson is the Vice President of Sales and Marketing. He brings 25 years of experience in delivering consultative and strategic solutions to government contracting and enterprise customers alike. John is responsible for developing and maintaining the FocusPoint business model and negotiating optimal value SemFin’s clients.

Prior to joining SemFin, he spent 10 years with Cognos and IBM managing strategic partner relationships including IBM’s partnership with Deltek. In this capacity he learned a great deal about the project performance management requirements of the government contracting market. It is this experience he brings to the development of the FocusPoint business model.

Phil Maynard currently is a Senior Advisor for Semfin. He is a former United States Marine and a business intelligence professional with over 25 years of IBM Cognos TM1 implementation experience and dozens of successful IBM Cognos TM1 implementations, spanning commercial, non-profit and government contracting organizations. He has proven his ability to take a client’s business processes and develop a TM1 solution that satisfies the requirements and that delivers a user experience that is logical and easy to work with.

Phil was the Technical Solution Architect for a successful business intelligence implementation company for seven years. Among other things, he presented solutions for TM1 server architecture and configuration, TM1 metadata modeling, security and proven TM1 development methods. He has also conducted many public and on-site TM1 technical training classes.
